This page contains list of common questions and problems (FAQ aka Frequently asked questions) that users have about Android port of VLC media player.

General

Why Google Play Store said that VLC is not available in my country?

Sorry, VLC is maybe not available on the Play Store for your country for now, like in the US for example.

But you can install VLC by yourself. See the Android Documentation.

Why Google Play Store said that VLC is not compatible with my device?

VLC Android on Google Play Store is only available in two versions, depending on your device processor architecture : ARMv7 (and above) or Intel x86.

But you can find others versions here, specially for ARMv6 architecture.

Is Chormecast supported?

No, Chromecast is not supported and we don’t know if it will be.

Is there a easy way to play remote files stored on my Samba server (or something equivalent)?

Not for now, but we are working on it.

Why my HD video doesn’t play? Or is so laggy?

We sitll have some issue with HD videos but have your try to modify the performance preferences?

  • Force video chroma : set to YUV
  • Deblocking filter settings : adjust the level
  • Hardware accelareted decoding : enable

Try this option one by one until you find the correct configuration.

But we are working on performance right now...

Why Hardware Acceleration doesn’t seem to work on my device?

Sorry, the hardware acceleration may not work with all devices

I read the documentation and I don't find the specific feature I love...

That’s possible but you can suggest us. The best way to do that is to create a feature ticket on the VLC tracker.

I find a bug!

“Sorry” and “Great” ! Now you can read the Android Report Bugs and help us.

When will come the final version?

Probably one day... But the current version works already pretty fine and you can test it.

Android Kit Kat 4.4

Why VLC is not working well since last update for android kit kat?

We have a sound issue with Android KitKat, particularly with the old Nexus 7 and Nexus 10, try to change the audio output :

Go to Preferences > Advance Debugging > Audio Output > AudioTrack (Java)

It should be better.

It seems that is an Android issue, so we can't do more now.
