RealMedia is a type of file designed by RealNetworks, and can be played with the proprietary RealPlayer. A linux version of RealPlayer is avaliable, in addition to Windows and Mac OS/OS X. Helix Player may be able to play this format also.
Compatability
Currently, VLC can only play the audio on some .rm files.
