VLC can decode this container.
The module name to use at the command line is au.

Sun au format is an audio file, normally with the file extension .au, which can hold uncompressed audio.

Accepted audio codecs

  • alaw: ISDN A-law and U-law format sound
  • twos: Linear PCM format (like WAVE)
  • au: Au floating point PCM, or ADPCM codecs
