The Real Media Codec is developed by the company RealNetworks? for their audio/video - streaming solution. This solution was the first important one for streaming via the internet in the mid 90's. The Real Media Codecs are proprietary, which makes their support in other applications pretty difficult. At present, an open-source decoder? is available for very outdated versions only.
