Windows Media Player is the standard video and audio application on every Windows system. Though many people use it, by default it isn't that powerful. It doesn't do MPEG2 or MPEG4 and is very dependent on the WMV? and ASF formats.

Streaming to Windows Media Player is discussed in this forum thread http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=255&highlight=wmp
