JACK is a recursive acronym for JACK Audio Connection Kit (its logo is a headphone jack).
It is a sound daemon for GNU/Linux, macOS and 32-bit Windows that aims to manage audio in a fast and efficient way, providing an API for programmers to use. Network capabilities are possible but require matching client setups (netJACK1, netJACK2, jack.trip or zita-j2n for both clients).
VLC media player supports JACK audio input since 0.9.0.
