== Introductie ==
Dank u voor het bezoeken van deze pagina, om uit te vinden wat dit VLC nu is. Neem in acht dat deze pagina in aanbouw is en dat deze in de nabije toekomst kan veranderen. VLC mediaspeler (of VLC in het kort) is een vrije en open source software mediaspeler. Eigenschappen die VLC de geliefde mediaspeler van veel mensen maakt is zijn excellente ondersteuning voor diverse audio en video codecs, het feit dat het cross platform is en zijn open ontwikkelingsmodel.

Deze pagina zal de stappen beschrijven om eenvoudige basishandelingen in VLC te kunnen uitvoeren. Voor meer geavanceerd gebruik zie de [[Documentation:Play HowTo|VLC Play HowTo]] voor een complete gebruikershandleiding, of [[Documentation:Streaming HowTo|VLC Streaming HowTo]] voor geavanceerde streaming mogelijkheden waar VLC tot in staat is.

== De VLC interface begrijpen ==
Als u VLC opstart, zullen er 2 dingen veranderen op uw scherm. Ten eerste zal er een klein icoontje in uw taakbalk verschijnen (nb: deze schermopnames zijn van een MS Windows XP machine genomen, op andere systemen kunnen ze er ietsjes anders uitzien):

De andere, meer prominente verandering op uw scherm zal de verschijning van de hoodfinterface zijn:

Met het icoontje in de taakbalk kunt u de hoofdinterface weergeven of verbergen door er met de linker muisknop op te klikken. Tevens, als u de hoofdinterface sluit door de sluitknop in het venster te gebruiken, kunt u de hoofdinterface weer tevoorschijn krijgen door het icoontje in de taakbalk te gebruiken. Handelingen zoals stoppen of pauzeren van het afspelen en het veranderen van de track zijn ook mogelijk door op het icoontje rechts te klikken. Dit zal een popup menu geven waar u uw gewenste handeling kunt aangeven.

De hoofdinterface bevat de volgende onderdelen:

De menubalk, bovenin het venster, geeft eenvoudige toegang tot alle handelingen waar VLC tot in staat toe is.

Direct onder de menubalk bevindt zich de track-schuifbalk. Deze zal tijdens het afspelen van een liedje of video van links naar rechts schuiven. Als er een video afgespeeld wordt, zal deze tussen de menubalk en track-schuifbalk weergegeven worden. Als er vanaf een stream gelezen wordt zal de schuifbalk niet verschuiven, aangezien VLC niet kan weten hoe lang de stream zal duren.

Onder de schuifbalk, links op de interface, zijn de besturingsknoppen voor afspelen/pauze, vorige track, stoppen, volgende track, schermvullende modus, afspeellijst en uitgebreide opties.

Rechts van de besturingsknoppen is de volumebesturing. Het kleine speaker-icoontje is een knop om snel alle geluid te dempen of ontdempen. De schuifbalk rechts daarvan stelt u in staat om het volume hoger of lager te zetten. Het percentage geeft de hoeveelheid versterking aan.

Onderin het venster wordt extra informatie weergegeven, zoals de naam en lengte van de track.

VLC media player (or VLC for short) is an free and open source software media player. Features that make VLC the preferred media player for a lot of people is its excellent support for various audio and video codecs, the fact that it is cross platform and the open way of development.

This page will describe the steps to perform the basic steps of using VLC. For more advanced uses see the [[Documentation:Play HowTo|VLC Play HowTo]] for a complete user guide, or [[Documentation:Streaming HowTo|VLC Streaming HowTo]] for the advanced streaming features that VLC is capable of.

== Understanding the VLC interface (in progress) ==
When you start VLC, two things will change on you screen. First there will appear a small icon in your taskbar (note that these screenshots are taken from the MS Windows XP version, on other systems they might appear slightly different):

The other, more prominent change to your screen will be the appearance of the main interface:

The icon in your taskbar can switch the main interface on or off by left clicking on to it. Also, if you close the main interface by using the close button in the window, you will be able to open the screen again by using the icon in the taskbar. Features like stopping or pausing playback or change track are also possible by right clicking the icon. This will give a popup menu where you can perform your wanted action.

The main interface contains a couple of sections:

Just below the menu bar is the track slider. It will progress during playback of a song or video from left to right. When playing a video, the video will be displayed between the menu bar and track slider. When reading a stream the track slider will not progress as VLC can't know how long the stream will take.

Below the slider, to the left of the interface, are the control buttons for play/pause, previous track, stop, next track, fullscreen mode, playlist and extended options.

To the right of the control buttons is the volume control. The small speaker icon is a button to quickly mute or un-mute all sound. The slider to the right of it allows you to modify the volume to louder or softer. The percentage gives the amount of amplification.
